Acrylic Painting with Jackie Cannon Pullo

A real acrylic painting class with a real artist.  Here you'll learn traditional methods of how to paint, different styles, color mixing, how not to make mud.  You'll learn perspective, shading, texture, image transference, under painting, how to use acrylic paints, some gel medium and glazing techniques, brush strokes, which brushes are appropriate for which style.    Working from images and real life, we will lean toward realism experimenting with a mixture of all subjects from traditional landscapes, figurative and still life work.  Ultimately, we'll teach you to have confidence, allow for experimentation and to find your own voice.  

Have your GPS take you to 101 West Rodney French Blvd. in New Bedford.  Once there, please park on the end of the building AWAY from the main entrance.  You'll see the last door of the big building, an ORANGE door, our big yellow sign is above it...enter there and go up the stairs.  At the top of the stairs...follow small yellow signs for NBACE.  We're right around the corner behind the mural  !!  

We recommend you begin purchasing your painting supplies at Ocean State Job Lot.  They have reasonable prices, and carry small and large tubes of paint.  You can purchase supplies on line as well, there are a couple of brick and mortar art supply stores in Rhode Island, and Michael's here in MA.

You will need to begin:

Paper Palette pad (9”x12” should be fine)

Primed cotton canvases - 9’x12’ or 11”’x14”

Brushes - synthetic are best for acrylic paint. They sell them in sets at OSJL...get as many different sizes as you are able.  Rounds, flats and filberts

Several 11X14" pre-stretched canvases (you only need to bring 1 to the first class). 

Acrylic Paints in a tube:

You can begin by purchasing a set at Ocean State Job Lot, very inexpensively, they are small tubes but you will need to purchase larger tubes as you continue.

Cadmium Red

Alizerin Crimson

Gamboge Yellow

Yellow Ochre

Ultramarine Blue

Cerulean Blue

Sap Green

Veridian

Vandyke Brown

Burnt Umber

Raw Umber

Burnt Sienna

Raw Sienna

Paynes Gray

Mars Black

Titanium White

You'll need to bring a small, flat dog/cat dish with 2 sections for water .  They don't spill or take up a lot of space.

Rags

Paper towels (6 is enough per class).

A pencil
