Welcome to an introduction to book arts ! Unlock the world of artistic expression through the captivating medium of book arts in this dynamic and hands-on class. Delve into the diverse possibilities of accordion-style bookbinding while learning to create unique and visually stunning book structures. You will embark on a journey that combines traditional bookbinding techniques with contemporary artistic approaches. You will gain a comprehensive understanding of the accordion book form as you explore its potential for storytelling, visual narrative, and conceptual
expression. We will use book boards and unique paper for the covers and mixed media for the interior. These beautiful keepsakes are perfect for collaging, painting, decoupage, transfer printing and writing. They make excellent gifts, or begin your own series of gorgeous work.Sara Gifford is an extremely talented art education graduate of Bridgewater State University. She quickly masters everything she touches with her endless unique talents. She is gentle, patient and makes her students feel at ease and as if they are simply naturals at whatever it is they're putting their hands to. Don't miss out on her expertise in this intro to Book Binding class. You will want to take anything she offers and the cost of her expertise is invaluable ! She has been studying book binding along with nature through the lens of watercolor painting for several years. Her specialties include watercolor illustration of subject matter such as birds, mushrooms, and flora. She learned through referencing the world around her as well as through countless nature books. Books have become fascinating to her and have led her to create her own in various styles. She resides and works in New Bedford. Her work has been published in The Bridge, and has been displayed at UMASS Boston’s University Hall Gallery.
No need to bring anything, but if you have small images you'd like to incorporporate into your book during class, feel free, and Sara will help you with the compositions.
