Intro to Bird Carving ~ Sand Piper
Learn from the Master Woodcarver himself, Michael McCarthy of Mattapoisett Bird Works. Using ¾” pine, pre-cut into a block and ready to carve and whittle, you will create your own sandpiper to display with honor for years to come. These shorebirds are attractive, elegant and ready for show. First giving a step by step demonstration, Mike will then walk you through the steps of carving, whittling, sanding, mounting, priming and painting these beauties finally preserving them with a finished coating. Included in your materials kit will be all the materials needed to create this small masterpiece. With borrowed knives and pre-cut metal for legs, you won’t believe that you made it yourself ! This is a great, peaceful project to do on your own, or with a child over 14 who can handle the tools.
