Linoleum Block-Cut Printing - non press printing

$55.00Price
  • This workshop offers an introduction to the basic methods and procedures of linocut printmaking.  Starting with an original monochrome drawing, each student will learn how to transfer a tracing of  his/her image onto a linoleum block, hand-carve the image on the block, and then ink-up and handprint the image onto paper. Each student will complete an edition of (4) prints. Only non-toxic water-soluble inks will be used in this workshop.

Prior to the workshop session each student should prepare a monochromatic (one color, or black and white) image on paper with an image size of 4” x 6”.  The format of the image can be either vertical or horizontal. However, the 4” x 6” image size is crucial as this size corresponds with the size of the linoleum block to be used during the workshop. This image can be a drawing, photo copy, or photograph. Each student is welcome to bring more than one image and the instructor can then help in deciding on which image might work best for the process. A helpful recommendation is to use an image in which the balance between the positive and negative elements are fairly even (40%- 60% total negative space).
