Learn to Knit November !
What says love more than a warm hand fashioned wearable or functional item? Whether you make the change purse/credit card envelope and scarf for yourself, your significant other, your kids, your mum or your secret crush, they're sure to be touched. This class is geared toward beginner knitters. Students will learn techniques such as casting on and off, knitting and pearling, counting stitches, and making pompoms ! Whether you finish it with fringe or pompoms, or leave it plain is up to you. You'll soon love this new cozy past time and will wonder how you ever lived without it. Knitting uses at least two straight needles to loop the yarn to easily create a fabric. The instructor will begin the first session with a short discussion of materials and techniques. She'll then give you a deliberate demonstration of casting on, which you'll practice, after that she'll demonstrate the knitting technique, you'll practice that by making a small envelope style purse hopefully within the first week. She'll then show you how to cast off and then begin the purl stitch which you will practice. You'll also learn to alternate the knit and purl stitches. You will then begin and be on your way to a 60" scarf ! This is a guided session and you will be given group and individual instruction, encouragement and guidance. We strongly recommend that you try and knit some every day for about an hour, at home, or in the car so you can finish your scarf by the 4th week's session. In that session, you'll learn to cast off and make fringe or pompoms.
Have your GPS take you to 101 West Rodney French Blvd. in New Bedford. Once there, please park on the end of the building AWAY from the main entrance. You'll see an ORANGE door that says Mattress Handup...enter there and go up the stairs. At the top of the stairs...follow small yellow signs for NBACE. We're right around the corner behind the mural !!
