Learn to Knit !
Winter time is perfect for Knitting. The activity is perfect knowing you're making something to keep you warm and cozy. Whatever you make for someone you love, they're sure to be touched. This class is geared toward beginner knitters. You'll begin by making a simple little wallet with a button closure. Students will learn techniques such as casting on and off, knitting and purling, counting stitches ! You'll then move on to a 60 inch scarf. Whether you finish it with fringe or pompoms, or leave it plain is up to you. If the dynamics of the class lead you to make a toque style hat, You'll soon love this new cozy past time and will wonder how you ever lived without it. Knitting uses at least two straight needles to loop the yarn to easily create a cozy fabric. The instructor will begin the first session with a short discussion of materials and techniques. She'll then give you a deliberate demonstration of casting on, which you'll practice, after that she'll demonstrate the knitting technique, you'll practice that by making a small envelope style purse hopefully within the first week. This is a guided session and you will be given group and individual instruction, encouragement and guidance. We strongly recommend that you try and knit some every day for at least 30 minutes, at home, or in the car so you can finish your scarf by the 4th week's session. In that session, you'll learn to cast off and make fringe or pompoms. Soon enough, you'll be making hats, sweaters, even blankets !! Look out world, here you come.
Have your GPS take you to 101 West Rodney French Blvd. in New Bedford. Once there, please park on the end of the building AWAY from the main entrance. You'll see an ORANGE door that says Mattress Handup...enter there and go up the stairs. At the top of the stairs...follow small yellow signs for NBACE. We're right around the corner behind the mural !!
